Sri Lanka has sat at the centre of the spice and gem trade for over two thousand years. maxdealz.lk is our attempt to put that trade directly back into the hands of the people who make it: the growers, weavers, carvers and cutters themselves.
Long before container ships, Arab and Chinese traders anchored off Galle for Ceylon cinnamon. Later, British planters carved tea gardens into the hill country around Nuwara Eliya and Uva. Through all of it, the people actually growing, weaving and carving rarely saw much of what their goods sold for once they left the island.
We started maxdealz.lk in Colombo to change that math — a marketplace where a Dumbara weaver, a Ratnapura gem-cutter, or a smallholder tea garden can list directly, set their own price, and ship to a buyer in Toronto or Tokyo without three layers of middlemen in between.
